PROGRAM

Day 1 Arrival in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon, or HCMC)

Upon arrival at Tan Son Nhat international airport in Ho Chi Minh City, you will be welcomed by our guide and transferred to your hotel in the city center to check in.
You will visit a local food market, a flower market and a place of residence to observe local life.
The last stop of the day will be the unforgettable Jade Emperor Pagoda. The pagoda is filled with smoky incense and imaginary carved figurines. It was built by the Chinese at the beginning of the 20th century (1909) and continues to buzz with the faithful.
 
Overnight in Ho Chi Minh City.

Day 2 Ho Chi Minh City – Ben Tre

Our tour guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel, then visit the Reunification Palace, which was the Residence of the Indochina Governor-General and later, of the President of the Republic of Southern Vietnam until its downfall on April 30, 1975.
 
Take a short drive to one of Saigon’s most historic landmarks, the Notre Dame Cathedral, a red brick edifice with twin bell towers, based on the original construction of the same basilica in Paris. All building materials were imported from France. Then head across the square to the Central Post Office, designed by the French architect Gustav Eiffel, before he had risen to fame for designing Paris’ Eiffel Tower. 
 
Continue to visit War Remnants Museum,  which displays a partial yet vivid view of the American War through Vietnamese eyes.
 
In the afternoon, you will be transferred to Ben Tre (Mekong Delta). Continue your journey to the ornate temple of Cao Dai in Ben Tre (colorful temple and less touristy area). Tour the temple, observe the strictly orchestrated, colorful midday service to gain an understanding of a unique religion, indigenous to Vietnam, which is a mixture of Buddhism, Christianity, Taoism and Confucianism.

Day 3 Ben Tre – Tra Vinh

Then you are transferred to the Hung Vuong Pier, hop on a motorized boat on the Ben Tre River – one of tributaries of the mighty Mekong River while catching lively activities along the river such as fishing and water transfer. Our first stop is at a brick kiln to see how to make bricks traditionally by forming and baking. Continue to one of several coconut processing workshops located along the canal. Return to the boat and go through natural scissors creeks to a village and see some locals making sleeping mats and enjoying some fruits.
 
Take a motorized cart (tuk tuk) or bicycle through shady paths, pass by green rice fields and vegetable plains to experience authentic life and discover tropical culture from peasants. Have lunch at a local riverside restaurant.
 
After lunch, we will take a rowboat along a beautiful water palm creek before meeting up with the motorized boat and transfer you back to the pier. You will take a road trip to Tra Vinh.

Day 4 Tra Vinh – Can Tho

You will take a bike ride or a walk to explore this tranquil and less touristy region, meet the locals and observe their daily life. Visit a local family to watch the technique of making rice cakes and noodles. Continue to a local market to discover the various fresh ingredients and agricultural products.
 
You are then transferred to Can Tho via Vinh Long. Stop on the way to visit a very beautiful Khmer pagoda. Arrival in Can Tho in the late afternoon.

Day 5 Can Tho – Hanoi

Take a short land transfer (or walk if it’s a short distance from the hotel) to the boat pier to board a motorboat for a cruise on the Hau River to see the famous Cai Rang Floating Market. Soak in the beautiful scenery and daily activities of the locals. Walk around a village and visit a rice husking mill.
 
Back to your hotel for breakfast, and checking out of your room. Transfer to Can Tho Airport for the flight to Hanoi.
 
Upon arrival, our driver and tour guide will welcome and transfer you to a hotel in Hanoi city center.

Day 6 Hanoi – Mai Chau Valley

Our tour guide and driver will pick you up for Mai Chau. You will take the road through the beautiful mountainous province of Hoa Binh, which is located in the Southwest of the capital of Vietnam. Four hours on the way, you’ll see sublime scenery dotted with limestone and rice paddies while going through several small villages of Muong, Thai, H’Mong, and Dao people.   
 
Arriving in the valley of Mai Chau, you will reach a village of Thai Ethnic people.
Lunch at homestay
 
After checking in at your hotel, take a short rest, then stroll or bicycle for about one or two hours around the village and valley.

Day 7 Mai Chau Valley – Pu Luong

After breakfast, our tour guide will pick you up and you will enter the Pu Luong Nature Reserve by road via a breathtaking mountain pass granting you a panoramic view of the whole valley. You will arrive at your accommodations in time for a delicious lunch, followed by free time to explore the beautiful Lodge, with its captivating panoramic views and tranquil setting.
 
In the afternoon, you will have 2.5 km of easy walking. You will have a chance to get close to village life and interact with locals living in the hills above the Lodge. Glimpse at daily life, walk around working farmland and rice fields, and get to know more about local culture. Walk back to the Lodge for a nice dinner.

Day 8 Pu Luong – Ninh Binh

Breakfast at your Lodge
Enthralling hiking routes | 4 km easy walking/3 hours
 
This is a common and easy walk around the most stunning valley of rice terraces. We start to descend into the valley where you walk around stepped rice terraces. We will then walk through small paths shrouded in vegetation to slowly reveal a picturesque village sitting at the base of a towering mountain. Your camera will not remain idle when you see the panoramic views of the village from above.
 
Continue downhill to a local home, where you can rest then go cycling around Lan Village. If time permits, we will visit a local family where we can learn about their traditional brocade weaving (not guaranteed). Cycling through the rice paddies and another village to explore more of the surrounding landscape. Ride back to the local home, which is the car pick-up point. You will be transferred back to your Lodge for lunch.
 
Transfer by road to Ninh Binh. Check-in the hotel upon arrival and the rest of the day is free at leisure.

Day 9 Ninh Binh – Trang An - Tam Coc

You will be transferred to the Tam Coc area to take an unforgettable two-hour boat trip in a beautiful and enchanting natural landscape. You will pass through the three caves of Tam Coc which pierce the mountains ... a show both sublime and relaxing! You will then visit the Bich Dong Pagoda.
 
In the afternoon, transfer to visit the Phat Diem Cathedral which is located 28km from Ninh Binh City, and in the village of Phat Diem. It is the largest Catholic architectural complex in Southeast Asia. It was built in 1891 by a Vietnamese priest, Father Pierre Tran Luc, better known as Father Six. This cathedral has a hybrid Vietnamese/European architecture with roofs like pagodas and Tonkinese communal houses. The architectural ensemble of the cathedral includes a large church, five small churches and a two-ton bell called Phuong Dinh, a masterpiece of this architectural ensemble, a pond and three artificial rock caves.

Day 10 Ninh Binh – HaLong Bay

Our driver and tour guide will pick you up at your hotel, depart for Lan Ha Bay – where thousands of spectacular limestone islets and grottoes rise from the clear emerald Gulf of Tonkin. You will arrive at the port after about a three-hour drive; check in procedure.
Enjoy a welcome drink on board.
A cruise follows when you will also be given safety instructions before checking into your cabins. While the ship is sailing, you will enjoy a bon-appetite lunch.
Relax while the ship is cruising through many stone islets, floating villages and small beaches.
Visit the Light and Dark Water Cave, where you can kayak or board bamboo rowboat oared by local people.
Visit a floating fishing village, talk and meet with local villagers prior to swimming or free time on your own on the sundeck.
Dinner would be ready at this time, boat anchors off at a quiet designated overnight area.

Day 11 HaLong Bay – Hanoi

Wake up early to enjoy the dawn and start a perfect new day with Tai Chi exercise on the sundeck or enjoy the breathtaking views of the bay while the boat glides leisurely in Lan Ha Bay.
Have a light breakfast in the restaurant.
You will take a bus route for about 20 minutes on Cat Ba Island from the Gia Luan Pier to visit a cave on Cat Ba Island. During travel, you will be immersed in the wild fresh natural scenery of Cat Ba National Park. Back to your ship.
 
Enjoy brunch on board while cruising toward the pier and disembarking around noon.  Our driver will transfer you to Hanoi.

Day 12 Hanoi ‘s High Points

Spend this morning exploring the alluring city of Hanoi. The complex dedicated to Ho Chi Minh, the Nation’s founder, contains the Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum and His House on Stilts. Tour the One Pillar Pagoda, built in 1049 of wood on a single stone pillar, designed to resemble a lotus blossom, the symbol of purity.
You will continue and visit the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, an engaging and colorful exploration of Vietnam’s multi-ethnic character which promotes socio-cultural diversity. 
 
In the afternoon, visit the Temple of Literature, the first university of Vietnam, which constitutes a rare example of well-preserved traditional Vietnamese architecture. Enjoy a cyclo (rickshaw) ride around the Old Quarter streets that were named after the specific goods once offered for sale at these places. Cap off your trip by wandering around the scenic Hoan Kiem Lake “Lake of the Returned Sword”, to learn about the legend of the lake and history of the city of Hanoi.

Day 13 Hanoi – Departure

Free time at your leisure until transfer to the airport for your flight back home.
