PROGRAM

Day 1 Arrival Siem Reap

Upon arrival at Siem Reap International Airport, you will be welcomed by our guide and transferred to your hotel in the city center for check-in. You will be free for the remainder of the day.

Overnight in Siem Reap.

OPTIONAL: VISIT KAMPONG PHLUK FLOATING VILLAGE (1/2 DAY)
This option is suitable for flights arriving in the morning.
Situated 18 kilometers from downtown Siem Reap, Kampong Phluk is one of the most impressive and untouched permanent settlements on the Tonle Sap Lake. Home to over 3,000 villagers, this quaint village offers a close look at the submerged mangrove forest and lakeside village life. Board a local boat and set out on a relaxing and interesting cruise. Immerse yourself into nature and gain an insight into the diverse village lifestyles on the lake as your boat glides through the mangroves, the houses on stilts, the floating school and police station. Observe life on the water as it is happening, and as it would anywhere in Cambodia. Get your camera ready to capture the scenic view over Tonle Sap Lake, local women or children making their way across the river canal, or village residents selling and buying produce at a makeshift floating market.

Day 2 Siem Reap- Miracle Ruins

Breakfast at your hotel.
Our tour guide will meet you at your hotel. Then, we will start the day with a transfer to Banteay Srei “The Citadel of Women”, the only major temple that was not built by a monarch. Stop along the way at the Hindu temple of Banteay Samre, a structure often recognizable as a “mini Angkor Wat”.

In the afternoon, continue your exploration of ruins by taking a short ride to the Roluos Temple Group, dating back to the 9th Century reign of King Indravarman. The ruins of Rolous are among the oldest Khmer monuments in the area.  You will unhurriedly explore the temples and soak up the local atmosphere away from the crowds. Walk a total distance of 3km from one temple to the other and meet local friendly villagers on the way.

Overnight in Siem Reap
Meal: Breakfast

OPTIONAL: SUNSET QUAD BIKE TOUR (2 hours)

Set off with a qualified driver for a sunset trip through Khmer countryside villages from the unique vantage point of the back of a quad bike. After a full briefing on how to drive the bikes and safety instructions, enjoy the ride through the backstreets of Siem Reap, and then over dirt roads that cross the local communities. Take in the sights and sounds of rural Cambodia as you pass houses on stilts by the river, water buffaloes, cows being herded home, and many happy friendly kids waving and saying hello. Make a stop in the heart of a paddy field to admire a stunning view of the setting sun as it dips into the western sky. Feel the peace and serenity of an untouched countryside area before heading back downtown.

Day 3 Siem Reap – Majestic Angkor Temples

Today, you will visit the Angkor Temples by bicycle (a tuktuk will be provided for those who do not bike).

Start your day at Angkor Thom, the former great capital of the Khmer Empire from the late 12th Century until its ultimate decline in the 15th Century, famed for its "face-towers" at its city gates and the central Bayon Temple. Get inside the compound and discover the most mysterious and elaborate structures of the Angkor Complex. Follow your guide to the Terrace of the Elephants, built by King Jayavarman VII at the end of the 12th Century to be used as his platform to view his victorious returning army; the Terrace of the Leper King, an intricate terrace wall with deeply carved nagas, and other mythological figures located along a narrow passageway that leads to the Baphuon Complex.

We continue to visit the fabulous temple of Ta Prohm, most popularly known as The Tomb Raider Temple. This beautiful jungle temple is one of Angkor’s jewels with giant tree roots intertwined amongst the temple’s huge stone blocks which give it a “forgotten city” feel.

In the afternoon, discover the wonders of the Angkor Complex and be amazed by some of the most beautiful masterpieces in the area. Transfer from your hotel to Angkor Wat, one of the magical wonders of the world. Originally constructed in the first half of the 12th century by King Suryavarman II, this vast temple complex was dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu. Stroll through the intricate and astonishing bas-reliefs that represent hundreds of fine carvings of Apsara, Hindu mythology as well as key events in its narrative tradition.

Overnight in Siem Reap
Meal: Breakfast.

OPTIONAL: ANGKOR BALLOON TOUR (45 MINUTES)
Today, enjoy a bird’s eye view of the majestic temple ruins of the Angkor Complex and its surroundings as you will get on a tethered helium balloon and sail through the clouds. From the stationary balloon’s vantage point, you will catch a perfect panoramic view of the city of Siem Reap, temple ruins and the Cambodia countryside surrounded by its lush farmland, paddy fields and sleepy villages.

Notes:

  • Tour duration: 45 minutes (inclusive of 10-minute ride on the balloon and transfer)
  • This balloon service is subject to availability depending on weather conditions
  • Capacity: 15pax per flight

Day 4 Siem Reap – Kampong Thom

Breakfast at your hotel.
In the morning, you will visit Cambolac Art For The People, specialists in Cambodian design and lacquerware. This social enterprise, with its lacquer boxes, aims to involve the poor communities of Siem Reap. This vision allows disadvantaged people to have an occupation, to regain their pride in making lacquer objects and to preserve the art of antique lacquer.
You will continue to discover a unique place for safeguarding the Khmer identity: "The Craftsmen of Angkor".
Free time for a visit to a local market.
Then depart by road for Kampong Thom, stopping at the old Nagas Bridge in Kampong Kdei.

Before arriving at the peaceful town of Kampong Thom, you will embark on a discovery of the famous site of Sambor Prei Kuk and its countryside, which is filled with ancient temples and shrines. Three main groups, surrounded by sanctuaries, perimeter walls and ditches, are listed on this quiet and wooded area.
If time permits, we will make a brief visit to the tiny Kampong Thom Provincial Museum, which will allow you to see early period lintels and some priceless sculptures.

Overnight in Kampong Thom
Meal: Breakfast.

Day 5 Kampong Thom – Kratie – Koh Trong

You are transferred to Kratie, and will arrive after a five-hour drive.
In the afternoon, you will stop at the best riverside vantage point from which to view the rare, freshwater Irrawaddy River Dolphins which can be best seen in late afternoon. The riverbed that you will visit only holds about 15-20 of these rare fresh-water dolphins, with around 70 of them left in the entire world. They were used for oil during the Khmer Rouge rule and due to pollution, fishnets and inbreeding, they have almost completely disappeared. What makes the Irrawaddy Dolphins so distinctive is the fact that they are fresh-water animals and have a very uniquely shaped bulging forehead.

Drive back to Kratie and take a small ferry boat to Koh Trong Island situated in the middle of the Mekong River, home to a floating village of Vietnamese fishermen along its west coast. You will arrive at Koh Trong Island after about 10 minutes.

Enjoy the evening at your leisure.

Overnight in Koh Trong
Meal: Breakfast.

Day 6 Koh Trong - Mondulkiri

After breakfast, you will enjoy a bucolic bike or horse-drawn cart ride in the surroundings to get to know the local rural life. Meeting with families from the Cham community, visiting a floating fishing village, observing local life and crossing agricultural plantations.

In the afternoon you will take the local ferry to Kratie.
Then you will continue on the road to Sen Monorom, the capital of Mondulkiri.
You arrive at your hotel at the end of afternoon.

Overnight in Mondulkiri
Meal: Breakfast.

Day 7 Mondulkiri – Bunong village and Elephant ride

After breakfast, you will start trekking and riding on the back of an elephant in this wild region where you can admire the waterfalls. We will cross the jungle covered hills to meet the Bunong, a minority ethnic population. The walk takes about an hour to the jungle covered hills and visit the Bunong Village, where you will have a chance to appreciate their traditions. Picnic Lunch near the waterfalls lost in the jungle. Return to your hotel.

Day 8 Mondulkiri – Phnom Penh

After breakfast at your hotel, our tour guide will pick you up and drive overland to Phnom Penh passing the Kizuna Bridge, the first bridge that crosses the Mekong in Cambodia. On the way, you will stop at Kampong Cham.
In the afternoon, you will visit the Wat Nokor Temple, a modern Theravada Buddhist pagoda squeezed into the walls of a 12th-century Mahayana Buddhist shrine of sandstone and laterite.
Then stop in the picturesque village of Skuon to taste fried spiders, a typical local delicacy.
Arrival at your hotel in Phnom Penh in the evening.

Overnight in Phnom Penh
Meal: Breakfast.

Day 9 Phnom Penh city – Silk Island

Our tour guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel to start the off-the-beaten track visit to the village of Koh Dach, known as Silk Island, where local artisans make their living by weaving silk into beautiful creations. Board a local boat to enjoy a close-up view of the countryside and river life. On your arrival, you will hop on a bicycle (about 5km) for a relaxing ride over easy, level terrain along narrow village lanes. Meet some of the families that still preserve the traditional hand looming of silk and dyeing it with bright colors. Be amazed by the homemade spinning wheels made from old bicycle parts.

In the afternoon, you will spend a half-day exploring the cultural capital city of Phnom Penh, which boasts a rich blend of Khmer and colonial architecture including: the Wat Ounalom Pagoda, the oldest temple which housed a huge population of Cambodian  monks, until today, and Phnom Penh’s most important temple and center of Buddhism; the Royal Palace built by King Norodom in 1866, the Silver Pagoda that boasts many national treasures including many golden and jeweled Buddha statues.
