PROGRAM

Day 1 Siem Reap arrival

Upon arrival at Siem Reap Airport, you will be welcomed by our tour guide and transferred to your hotel in the city center for check-in. You will be free for the remainder of the day. Overnight in Siem Reap

OPTIONAL: VESPA TOUR EXPERIENCE
You will spend a revealing half-day tour exploring the Khmer countryside from the back of a modern Italian Vespa. Start your day with the visit to APOPO, a landmine clearing organization that trains scent-developed rats to sniff out deadly explosives. Pay a visit to a local stunning and peaceful pagoda to learn about Khmer's spiritual belief systems. Receive a blessing from monks, in authentic tradition, sit on carpets while the monks chant blessings and sprinkle holy water and flowers on you – a traditional way which is believed to bestow good luck of the gods upon you. The key features of this journey are to stroll around the village to meet the locals and gain a fascinating insight into the patterns of daily life that have changed little since the era of temples. Have a chat with a family of rattan weavers and taste delicious sticky rice grilled in bamboo leaves. Cap off your experience at a local family house surrounded by rice paddies. Enjoy country hospitality as you sip on a cold coconut beverage or a local beer in a rustic,  yet cozy atmosphere.

Day 2 Siem Reap – Angkor Temples

Your tour guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel.
Access Angkor Thom from the west gate which is undiscovered by mass tourism. The ancient capital of Angkor Thom was founded in the 12th century. See the South Gate’s Bayon Temple - unique for its 54 towers decorated with over 200 smiling faces of Avalokitesvara, the Baphuon Temple, The Elephant Terrace, and the Terrace of the Leper King.
We continue visiting the fabulous Ta Prohm entrenched by the roots of enormous fig trees and gigantic creepers.
In the afternoon, visit the awe-inducing temple of Angkor Wat, a World Heritage Site since 1992, famous for its unrivaled majesty and splendor. Angkor Wat features the longest continuous bas-relief in the world, which runs along the outer gallery walls and narrates stories from Hindu mythology.  The stories include topics such as the beginning of time, victory of good over evil and the tug of war between gods and demons.

The Pre Rup Temple was built in the 10th century during the reign of King Rajendravarman II.

Overnight in Siem Reap.
Meal: Breakfast.

Day 3 Siem Reap - Floating village and countryside

Today, head out to Siem Reap’s outskirts to visit one of the largest floating villages of Tonle Sap Lake. Located about 60 kilometers from Siem Reap, Kampong Kleang is home to over 20,000 people, many of whom have been living here for generations. Set off for a memorable cruise to discover a massive floating community. You will get to learn how the floating villagers earn their living by fishing on Tonle Sap Lake. It is possible to stop along the waterway to chat with the villagers to learn more about how this floating community lives, works and trades. One thing to be sure, life on land is quite different from life on the water!

In the afternoon, leave the hustle and bustle of Siem Reap behind and set off to encounter its beautiful surroundings and paddy fields, engage in local life as it passes slowly by. Tour a charming village to gain an overview of local daily activities including planting rice, herding buffaloes, catching fish, or creating handicrafts. Stop at a family-run workshop where local artisans will explain the importance of rattan crafts for thousands of village families and coach you on how to weave a traditional rattan basket. Cap off this memorable trip by a visit to the home of a local farmer where you will learn how to prepare some traditional Khmer dishes. Enjoy the home-style meal with the host in a rustic, yet cozy countryside setting.

Day 5 Battambang- Bamboo Train ride

Breakfast at your hotel, then continue with a guided tour of BATTAMBANG

First, you will drive to the Bamboo Railway Station that has been set up by villagers to facilitate the transportation of goods and people. The train in itself is very basic – one platform on four wheels activated by a small motor. Sitting on the platform,  we will travel  8km to the next station and back through beautiful landscapes and rice paddies.
Roam along the banks of the Sangkè River.

Next, a few kilometers further south, you will arrive at the well-preserved 11th century mountain top Angkorian temple of Phnom Banan. After climbing the 350+steps, you will treat to a wonderfully peaceful setting with superb views across the surrounding countryside, with small villages dotting the endless rice paddies, punctuated with the characteristic sugar palm trees and a wonderful sunset location...
Visit a small vineyard and taste the local red wine produced by a family.
Visit the Angkorian site of Vat Ek Phnom.
Back in town crossing the plain of BATTAMBANG. Along the way, you will make a stop in a small traditional factory of rice pasta.

You will enjoy the sunset over the surrounding countryside near the Bat Cave. When the sun goes down, at the foot of Phnom Sampeau Mountain, inquisitive people will gather here to observe a magnificent sight with thousands of bats "bursting out" from a cave to start their night hunt.

Overnight in Battambang.
Meal: Breakfast.

Day 6 Battambang – Phnom Penh

After breakfast, transfer to Phnom Penh by the N5 national road,  stopping in the province of Pursat. A province renowned for marble has given rise to sculptors in the village. Day 9 Kep – beach relaxation

Breakfast at your hotel.
You have free time for relaxing or exploring the town by yourselves.

Our recommendation: You should visit the bustling local crab market in the early morning by yourselves.
Kep is a small fishing town on the Gulf of Thailand, where the locals earn their living mainly by fishing. While most Asian markets are filled with colorful fruit and elaborate displays of local produce, the crab market specializes only in fresh seafood and everything that can be made from seafood. Stroll around to learn about the traditional way of trading, socializing and take in the sights and sounds, smell, and flavor of a real Cambodia market. You’ll have an opportunity to purchase a fresh crab, shrimp, or fish and have a local vendor cook and serve it traditionally.
